The other day I went to a home open to get some renovation ideas and I saw that the exterior of the house had been clad in what appeared to be white timber boards. Closer inspection revealed that it was in fact thin plastic cladding which had been moulded to appear like timber boards but was in fact one large continuous sheet which had been cut to size. It looks like an ideal product with which to cover the ugly rendered asbestos my house is currently clad with but I have no idea what this product is and I cant find it in any of the large hardware stores. Does anyone have any idea of what it is called, where I can find it and what it costs? It looks like it would be quite an economical solution to concealing ugly cladding. The plastic was quite flexible and appeared almost thin enough to be cut with scissors (almost) so I imagine it would be easy to install myself. If no one has any idea what I am talking about, can anyone recommend a product that is easy to use to cover the outside of a house which is economical and attractive? We dont want to have to pay to have all of the asbestos removed to have genuine replacement cladding installed, and painting would be a last resort as the exterior of the house would require a lot of filling and crack-concealing work. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
