After aircon was installed we were left with black fingerprints, which the installer tried to wipe off, making it worse. I am going to try the chux magic eraser sort of thing, but wondered if anyone has tried this or if it will have to be touched up with paint Thanks Re: Cleaning marks off ceiling 3Jan 25, 2012 9:35 pm Trinity Those magic erasor/ microfibre blocks are great. The trick is not to rub too hard or too long. Just go very very gently, bit by bit. no rude comments please Spoilsport! You should be able to touch it up with ok/good results. Re: Cleaning marks off ceiling 5Jan 29, 2012 1:10 am 4walls You should be able to touch it up with OK/good results. It will depend how old your paint job is, how much it has naturally discoloured so you dont end up with a patch. At worst it may have to be repainted with costs shared by the A/C installer -- IF you haven't paid him already? The A/C bloke should have known better, washed his hands and taken a bit more care Good luck Arfur Re: Cleaning marks off ceiling 6Jan 29, 2012 7:37 pm Thanks all. We decided to touch it up, instead of risking making it worse by trying to clean it After trying to put it off we touched it up today, and looks pretty good. Used a small touch up roller and blended it really lightly. Seems to have blended in well. Only problem was the builder didnt leave us any ceiling paint for touch ups (which I think they usually do) so we had to buy some. Minimum of course is 4 litres! Since its only been painted a few months ago it was OK, but I agree Arfur, any longer and it might have stood out too much. So frustrating how everything we do seems to create a new job... But we are getting closer to being finished now Re: Cleaning marks off ceiling 7Jan 29, 2012 7:51 pm I opened a bottle of Diet Coke that I had in the freezer, and yes, it exploded all over our ceiling. My Son got some paper towel with jiff on it and dabbed at all of the brown spots, he didn't wet the paper towel to much. He installs Air Conditioning and said that's what they use, it worked. Re: Cleaning marks off ceiling 8Feb 13, 2012 5:40 pm Hey guys I hope I am not too late in this thread for the OP - if I am I hope I can help anyone else that reads this in the future. I am a sparky by trade and naturally I would always end up having my fingerprints on peoples ceilings - as much as I tried to be careful they would always end up there. The marks are usually just the oil from your fingertips - and I found the best way to wipe them off and safely was using those KFC fresh towel thingys. Not sure what they are called but they are similar to make up removers for women. This worked a trade just be careful not to wipe it tho, just dab it on the spot you have marks on. it is designed to absorb the oils. That sounds like a real neat trick. Will definitely keep that in mind as we are currently in the process of moving to a new place.
