Browse Forums DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair 1 Mar 13, 2011 10:42 pm Hi! Thanks for checking out my confused little thread. I have a weird problem. My bed has been completely soaked - looks like it must have come via the ceiling, but there's no evidence of leakage - at least, not to my building-knowledgeless eyes. The light fixture directly over the bed - where the centre of the soaking was - is dusty. There was a brief burst of REALLY heavy rain here earlier today (Reservoir, VIC) and there were some mini-floods on the roads, but our house was OK, or so it seemed. I'd come home from shopping, getting wet in the process, and gone into the bedroom to change clothes...and didn't notice any leaking or wetness on the bed at all. It was still raining then. It's nighttime now, and I have only just realised the bed was soaked. I can't see any damp patches on the ceiling or anything. It's pretty baffling, actually! I live in a semi-detached unit - one in a series of five. I'm in a body corporate and we have body corporate insurance but don't know whether or not this has anything to do with that or if it's all my problem. And most of all I don't know what to do or who to call - I can't even tell what the problem is. But I'm stupidly nervous because I don't know if the bedroom roof is full of rainwater or not. If there is a leak and/or the roof is full of water...does anybody know what steps I should take to sort it out? Sorry for being such a dumbarse about this. I'm a new and completely inexperienced homeowner and really know absolutely nothing about this sort of thing. If you got through all that, thanks for reading! Re: Probable leaking roof but don't know what's happened! 2Mar 18, 2011 8:03 am Looks like 5 days since you posted this, have you sorted it out? It's quite possible for water to come through light fittings during heavy rain, especially if there's unusual winds involved that might push the water through a gap it normally couldn't get into, or if there's a blockage.
