Browse Forums DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair 1 Feb 23, 2011 11:01 am Hi We have a wlak through laundry which has an inside door that swings onto a bench. The laminated benchtop runs behind the door which is unusable bench space. We want to cut some of the bench away approx 70 - 80 mm and make the door a sliding door. How do I go about cutting the bench without cracking the laminate. It is the same as our kitchen benches? Cheers Tracy Re: Laminate benchtops 2Feb 23, 2011 2:27 pm The best and if you can remove the benchtop is to take it to a cabinet maker and ask to cut off a section with a panel saw. Short of that is to score the laminate and use a 80 tooth circular saw but you run the risk of chipping the laminate. The other option is to remove the existing sheet of laminate and buy a new one glue it back and use an iron to fold it back in place always being carefull not to leave any bubble behind. A new benchtop should not cost you too much if you go to the right places anyway. Re: Laminate benchtops 3Feb 25, 2011 4:00 pm Is there any carcase under the bench? If not, the bench will be sitting on a rail along the wall. You will need to hold the bench up once you cut the end. Can you get the bench top out or are you going to try and cut it insitu. I can not remove the bench. I will need someone to do it or I'' get my husband to do it.
