Browse Forums DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair 1 Feb 11, 2011 8:52 am Hi, Quick intro before I get down to my question, have been in my house for 16 months, lots of things I need to do, but as with any project it is time and money. My big problem right now is with a couple of mice deciding that they like my house. I have check where they could be getting in and it is behind the oven where the gas pipe comes out of the wall. I have read that steel wool or expansion foam can be used in holes, but what I need to know is; is it safe to use these around the gas pipe at the back of the oven and if not what can I use? Also Bait in the roof cavity, would this be a good idea? Thanks Heaps Re: Hello & Help 2Feb 11, 2011 4:41 pm I would go for the foam which I have found good. Safe to use in this application. In a rental house were we had mouse problems I found that bait in the roof cleared them out for about a year. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! And under house if appropriate I used steel wool around the pipes, although there are special collars you can get that fit the hole and block the rest but I don't know how good they are. We did use some expansion foam but it looks really messy at least the way we did it Re: Hello & Help 4Feb 12, 2011 6:14 pm If the hole isn't too big, use no more gaps, that expanding stuff makes a mess and whatever you do don't get it on your hands.
