Browse Forums DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair 1 Jan 23, 2012 6:39 pm Hi, My builder put in a plastic 600 x 600 x 600 stormwater pit to divert the stormwater from the side of my house. The pit has been installed directly into clay soil. I believe that this would warp the pit in time as the clay soil will expand. Any thoughts on this anyone? I thought about digging around the pit and filling it with concrete, but am not sure if I am going overboard. Re: Plastic stormwater pit 2Jan 25, 2012 3:47 pm you just need to make sure whatever you do (pave, concrete, other) is solid enough to hold its shape. Ours are plastic and we just concreted around them(mask them up so no conc goes in the pit or blocks the gate) and they are fine. I understand your concern as I dont like these (cheap option) plastic pits, preferring concrete poured in situ. From my experience the reason the top grating is so heavy is to stop the plastic walls collapsing inwards. Concreting around yours could help but what about the base?
