Tongue and Groove wall preparation

Hi ..... how do I prepare a tongue and groove wall and ceilings for painting. I do know the basics on painting......and have painted a few non Queenslander style houses before but was more concerned with what materials to use for gaping between each board on the walls and ceilings. A friend of mine uses no more gaps but suggested maybe using liquid nails instead......just from her own experiences. She also suggested I will need to renail every board in every room (4 bedrooms plus lounge, hallway and dining plus ceilings.....just for starters). She also suggested I would need to pre drill each nail hole slightly to prevent the pine boards from splitting.........

The prep work I can handle......and the clean up after is ok.......and even the actual undercoating and painting........just what to use for gapping and do I really need to nail every board to help prevent movement so my paintwork and gapping stay perfect??

I think I can see me preparing and painting for ever in this house lol.

p.s I have painted tongue and groove walls before.....but it was a rental we had and we needed to get it cleaned up and pretty for rental........ so I might not have been so fussy with the "gapping" between the boards :oops:

I've asked about T & G on this forum before but never got many responses...We have T & G at our current place however its all new sheets so we didn't need to no gap it etc..however I think no gaps or liquid nails would be fine, whatever you think works best and i hadn't heard of renailing it..only if it needed I i would've thought. Definately looks better when its no gapped..and ifs theres some ******* boards then yeah, pre drill the holes and pop in a nail!

Well our house at the moment that we live in......actually it is no longer our house I keep forgetting we now rent it back from the new owners

but we painted it (me doing ALL inside painting and hubby helping with the outside painting) inside the main colour is full strength hog bristle (dulux colour...haymes paint) with feature walls of dark blue in one room (I also sponged lemon and mauve onto this feature wall), in the main room it is a dark mauve/purple textured paint feature wall and the 3rd bedroom I can't remember the colour but it is a mid blue feature wall. I was hoping to keep similar colours in the new house......just instead of feature walls I might try the feature colour from the ceiling and down the walls a bit to the board thingy (not good with the terminolgy yet lol) with the main colour being the rest of the walls. The outside of the house is Umbertone (sort of an olive/brown colour) on top half of the house and the underneath part I have painted Baked Clay. With Deep Ocean gutters (had them replaced) and the steps and verandah rails I painted Copen Blue (all haymes colours and paints)

With the new one I thought I would paint the outside Baked Clay with the Umbertone or maybe colorbond Jasper as the gutter and the deep ocean as the contrast on the verandah rails and steps.

Still thinking about the colours but so far those are the sort of tones I like. Once the house is on the block (hopefully in a couple of months) and we can then get stuck into it cleaning it and getting it ready so we can live in and then do the reno's.....I will have plenty of time to change my mind on colours......and lots of things actually lol

Oh and I found a stove I like too.......it is the shape of an old wood/combustion oven but is a nice modern make and it is on small legs.........just slightly more than I imagined I would pay.......lol ..... but by the time we are ready to renovate the kitchen they might have dropped in price......and maybe hubby can source a cheaper one too.

Oh and thanks for the advise. I have a few months to research what I will be doing to the walls yet. Yes I also thought I would not need to nail the boards unless they needed it.
