Browse Forums DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair 1 Dec 16, 2010 11:18 pm I wonder if anyone could advise me about the best way to treat a timber window frame made from untreated pine. When the builder made the 600x600 frame to support glass bricks...he used 140 x 45 mm pine but it wasn't cca treated (don't know why as it exposed to the elements).is there any special treatment I can apply (eg;wood preservative) or should I just paint it with an oil based paint? Re: raw timber window frame 2Dec 20, 2010 12:30 pm The glass brick company specifies the type of frame to be used when they install glass brick panels. I would contact them first to see if the frame is up to the job. In terms of treatment, a water based paint such as solar guard is fine. Once the paint dries it won't absorb moisture. Most house paints are water-based now as it negates the need for turpentine when cleaning up. They just wash up in water Re: raw timber window frame 3Dec 22, 2010 3:05 pm Thanks chrisandkate, I tried a timber preservative with a copper napthenate solution...I'm advised by the hardware store that because it is in slightly oily solution that I will need to use an oil-based wod primer...that's what I intend to do...I just hope the preservative works ok. cheers This is 100% true. You can not hang anything on steel frames. very frustrating 8 8014 Its the flashing and is normal. Some builders cover them up others just leave them handing. You can cover it up with an aluminium bracket or ask the builder. 7 11233 1 14482 |
