Browse Forums DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair 1 Oct 27, 2010 2:50 pm We're presently considering either renovating or demolishing and building new. Our place is a circus 70s house but has all the lovely jarrah skirting boards, door frames, window sills, raked lounge ceiling with exposed beams etc. I'm just curious if anyone in Perth (or elswhere for that matter) is building new with these features or if it's just a thing of the past due to the cost. We have been considering salvaging it all from our existing home to go into a new place but imagine it would also be expensive to do. Is everyone now just in the pressed steel door frame and painted MDF architrave with no skirting world? Cheers. With old growth logging mostly stopped in WA now, most harvested jarrah is retained for furniture. Jarrah is also more difficult to work with than the likes of MDF, being quite hard and having a natural grain can tend to split if it is very dry and you don't be careful with what you are doing If you are thinking about salvaging the Jarrah and putting it in a new home, it's worth working out how many useable metres you will have once you are done. Most houses built in the 70's would be around 150m2 floor area, if you plan on building 220m2 you may find yourself short of useable jarrah. I already have the doors and architraves installed as pictured. My question is which size n type of skirting would go with the architraves?
