Our house is 4 years old and some of the skirting boards are coming away from the wall, only on the walls that are an external wall. I am guessing it has something to with the house moving. My question is: Is this normal and how can it be rectified so they will not come away from the wall. If you have brick internall walls you will need to dowel and nail the skirting back. If you have a framed house then you will need to find the studs and fix back too those (either screw or nail). Some chippys just liquid nail skirtings today. If it is onto gyprock then they say stuck tight, it is onto plastered brick then sometimes the set will pull away from the float leaving you with loose skirtings.
