Browse Forums DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair 1 Oct 14, 2010 9:15 pm Can this be right, I bought a 1950's house in Sydney and didn't think to check for water meters. Anyway, took possession from the tenants and went looking in the front garden. There's a tap about 50cm from the footpath but no water meter in sight or under the shrubs along the footpath. Still can't find one. Not sure I want to call up Sydney Water in case they want to install one at my cost. I have 2 side neighbours and a park in the back. Could a water meter be located along another boundary? Anyone else have a house without a water meter? Re: Old house - no water meter! 3Oct 14, 2010 9:39 pm I seem to recall the location of the meter being on the water bill; double check it to be sure? Status: sold our first house, moved in with parents, bought our second in Pakenham, still planning to build in a few years time. Finally the water board discovered it and installed one Didn't this issue come up with the solicitor when you bought the property? Re: Old house - no water meter! 5Oct 14, 2010 10:21 pm In the purchase docs there is a Sydney Water document with a meter reading so I'll have to hunt around some more. They are usually so obvious though. Might do some careful digging near the tap. Re: Old house - no water meter! 6Oct 14, 2010 10:38 pm They can be under a bush, lots of places to hide but important to know where it is should you want to turn the water off! When you do find it and if it has a cover - be carefully taking it off! You can buy a key for it from plumbing and hardware shops. The taps will have a funny shape in where the tap should be. Old Home Restoration / Renovation Hi, just discovered all these junks left behind under the floor. Could any of these be asbestos? Best to leave as it is or clean up? Thank you for your thoughts 0 8070 if it's the look that you're not happy with, the easiest option would probably be to spray paint it all into the same color as the walls so it blends in. there might not… 3 4192 |
