Browse Forums DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair 1 Sep 12, 2010 6:17 pm Hi, any ideas? A house that is due for renovation was flooded recently, about a foot and a half of water ran through the house. The house is very old, as are the circuit breakers etc. Now the problem is that when flooded, the electricity continued to flow to all submerged power points, extension leads etc, without the circuit breakers :"breaking". The extension leads etc were all taken out when the flood waters had left, still operating and very hot. Now, this is obviously a very dangerous situation, any advice on what is wrong. Is it simply the circuit breakers are too old and need to be replaced ASAP? BTW there is no RCB etc installed. Any ideas would be much appreciated! If readings are low, replace wiring. .-If you are going to renovate, don't worry about testing the wiring, tear it out and replace it. -If the area floods reguarly, look at mounting the outlets higher. Might look gawky but it'll save you a fair bit of grief next time around. Some houses in Katherine were done like this for the next big flood. Wish you all the best.
