Hi there,
I'm after some general info on this potental problem.
I have a 1981 built brick vaneer house, on a (very) sloping block, so it's cut well into the the land. The inside of the basement has white powdery deposits on the bricks/mortar as the moisture from the dirt outside comes throughthe brick. I assume that there is no tanking / seal / plastic (or whatever you use) on the outside of the bricks where the dirt sits up against it on the outside.
Worse case would be that my downstairs usable space will become uninviting, damp, musty and dangerous to my equipment. Actually, scratch that: Worse case is the bottom layers of bricks fail and the walls are threatening to come down!
Any general advice here?
Is there a name for the profession that deals with this? Who can I go to to get an educated opinion on the severity of this problem?
Cheers,
Heat_Crime.
