Browse Forums DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair 1 Aug 31, 2010 11:56 pm I know this is an unusual request...I need a piece of kauri pine timber with dimensions of 155mm x 22mm. These boards only come in standard sizes of 150mm x 22mm and there is a narrow board also. The board I needed to replace because of dry rot just happened to be 155mm, an odd board because most of the other boards are 150mm only. Now I've been to a few recycling yards including Ironwood at Rozelle...I went through just about every recycled board they had but no 155mm. I really don't want that gap. Anyone have a spare 155mm board minimum 92cm long they could sell? Re: 155mm kauri pine board 2Sep 01, 2010 6:44 am You could buy a board twice length you need (look for one with a grain that is even throughout), cut in half then rip one board @80mm and the other @75mm, router a groove. TIP: avoid any possible mistakes, it's best to join the boards after the first rip then do the second rip, remember to NOT cut the tongue off. i.e step 1: rip step2: router groove step3: join step4: rip step5: router groove Cheers.. Re: 155mm kauri pine board 3Sep 01, 2010 11:35 pm Thanks OK,That is a job for a carpenter with a router and electric saw. Alternatively, could I use a thin strip of kauri pine along the groove? there is enough joist to support the 150mm board. Thanks for your reply Re: 155mm kauri pine board 4Sep 02, 2010 12:07 am camelia Thanks OK,That is a job for a carpenter with a router and electric saw. Thanks for your reply yw.. not a great idea, the tongue would barely be in the groove if at all, you'll avoid creaking the way I suggested. Re: 155mm kauri pine board 7Sep 14, 2010 6:28 pm Danmar Minyak (also known as Malaysian Kauri Pine) is often used in place of Australian Kauri Re: 155mm kauri pine board 8Sep 14, 2010 10:10 pm thanks duke...I have a few lengths of the minyak...it isn't quite the same...it's 20mm (old kauri 22mm) thick and still only 150mm wide. It also is a bit lighter in colour and doesn't quite match the other boards. DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair Are you going to have the frame exposed or are you cladding it with something. Usually if you are making an exposed frame you would use solid legs around 100x100 or… 3 6592 Iām just in the process of replacing 2 stud walls that have been severely damaged by termites and am planning to use h2 blue pine.
