I have a 40 year old house. My plan is to update kitchen, do up the floors- new carpeting and tiling and or polishing existing floorboards. I dont really know much at this point about renovating, but I'm starting off with re-leveling my house, as the kitchen area sinks a bit, some windows are hard to open/close and there are a few cracks in the walls. Now my first question is: besides the cosmetic side to re-leveling my home, do I really need to spend the $ to do this? Do I need to re-level to be able to install a new kitchen and put in tiles? 2nd question: Re- leveling a home without adding new stumps...is this effective (just stacking)? Or will the sagging begin to appear within 6 months? I dont want to spend a grand and then have the kitchen area sink on me again.
