Browse Forums DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair 1 Aug 04, 2010 9:57 pm Hi - Help!! Our loo seat just died and all we needto replace is a hinge, the hinge we have since found out is going to cost $170 for a pair! Does anyone know much about Caroma suites? We were thinking that maybe another hinge from another style will fit our loo and hopefully be a lot cheaper. The style of Caroma loo is Pressalit 2000 - ivory. We've been trying ebay, but haven't had any luck so far. If anyone knows of this style or anything about the Caroma suites, that would be great. Thanks so much for your help! Lucy Re: Caroma Pressalit toilet hinge - $$$$$$ 3Aug 05, 2010 9:52 am We are in brisbane. We were hoping to try and get a set of hinges from an ebay auction, but we couldn't be there to remove the toilet (was in melbourne) so we are still on the hunt. We just can't justify having to pay that amount for a set of hinges! We've only been in the house for about 6 months and aren't planning on a reno to this bathroom, and the caroma loo's are really expensive. It's the loo downstairs too, so it needs to match, everything that we've found has been white, so we're now trying for the hinges instead! Thanks for your reply. Lucy Re: Caroma Pressalit toilet hinge - $$$$$$ 4Aug 06, 2010 11:06 am there is a place in melbourne that could help. 222 park street south melb. give caroma a call on 1300 227 662 (customer central number). they are usually pretty good. The entire seat itself retails at $259. I think you may have been quoted a seat price. the hinges should not be that price. Let me know how you go. I'm at work, gone back thru all my spec manuals, so I think you've mixed up a name somewhere, could it be Opal 2000 (only 2000 suite I can find that would fit pressalite seat). What I have found is everything that fits the Pressalite seat also fits an Avalon seat (dearer tho), or you could also get away with a Caravelle 2000 seat (snap on style, not metal hinges - RRP $154), or even right down to the Trident seat(RRP - $95.00). Just check your measurements for the holes to the seats. Also, because I don't know what your toilet is, can you reach the fixings on the underside of the pan to attach the seat or do you need a blind fixing kit. You should be able to get all the dimensions from the caroma website. Possumchops Now the proud owner of 3.7acres of Serenity. Colour selection completed! Soon to go to council. Re: Caroma Pressalit toilet hinge - $$$$$$ 7Aug 06, 2010 11:54 am Oh okay possumchops you've got me confused now!! I've got the catalogue in front of me and the name is pressalit 2000 - is this just the name of the seat? We just need the metal hinges that fit the pressalit 2000 seat. Sorry if I've confused things but we thought the suite was pressalit 2000. If it's just the seat then maybe we'll have more luck. My husband called Caroma and they said that the hinges would cost $179. Crazy. Re: Caroma Pressalit toilet hinge - $$$$$$ 8Aug 06, 2010 4:22 pm Pressalit is the name of the seat only. I did not correct you to avoid that confusion. If you chase the hinges that suit it, you will also cover the actual suite it is attached to as the suite could be anything. There are two types of hinges that potentially could be your type but it is probably the stainless steel hinge kit you are going to need. If you can get a picture of the hinge, i think i might be able to help you avoid paying the RRP of $160 to $180. Message me if you have any questions. Ours have just failed for the second time in 8 years. I'm now looking for a new toilet seat with properly engineered hinges. The problem is that the hinges are simple L shaped steel rod through a thin steel mounting plate and just peened over. There is no adjustment for height to compensate for any imperfections in the toilet bowl, and insufficient strength in the hinge mount to allow for a seat that doesn't sit exactly evenly on the two pads at the front. As discussed above the cost of replacements are ridiculous as two new hinges are almost the same as a complete new seat. Can anyone recommend a more robust seat? I think it is on a Reflection suite, or at least that is what is written under cistern lid. Mine is Ivory so replacement seat options are limited and wife did not like the plastic alternative I found at Bunnings. I did find this http://www.firstclasswetrooms.co.uk/pre ... 23sep.html and http://www.pressalit.com/NR/rdonlyres/9 ... 000_UK.pdf. Both of which look very similar, for that price I am tempted to see if they will ship to Aus. Looks like it is an OEM product from Pressalit, the hinge being a Pressalit BN3. There are a few fro sale on Ebay UK site under the name of "L-Shaped hinge" they look like they will fit and at about $12AU, unfortunately they also do not post to Australia, have left the sellers messages to request postage.
