Browse Forums DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair 1 Apr 29, 2010 8:13 pm Hi, we have recently purchased 2.2 acres which we will be building on the in the future and looking a buying a new ride on. At the moment we are tossing up between a Husqvarna LTH2142D, 21hp, Hydrostatic, 42" cutting width which we can get with a 3yr warranty for $3849 or a John Deere LA115, 19.5hp, Hydrostatic, 42" cutting width with a 2yr warranty for $3640. Leaning towards the husqvarna at the moment. Any readers out there own either of these brands or another they would recommend? Thanks in advance. Re: Does anyone have a husqvarna or john deere ride on mower 2Apr 29, 2010 8:25 pm We had a John Deere and hubby loved it, it did a great cut and he was really chuffed with the in-built stubby holder and mobile phone holder We only sold it because we moved off acreage and we got back nearly all of what we paid for it, so they hold their price. Can't speak for the other brand sorry. Blog: http://bluemistkids.blogspot.com "Never be afraid to try something new. Remember, amateurs built the ark, and professionals built the Titanic." We own a couple of John Deeres, both ride ons and self propelled models, my husband is a gardener. Little trouble with them and that's with constant use. Things to look for is turning circle capabilities, really important in our opinion especially around not so well laid out gardens. We also have a sales centre near by which is helpful should you need parts Re: Does anyone have a husqvarna or john deere ride on mower 4Apr 29, 2010 10:29 pm We just sold our Husqvarna... a great machine. But I would say they are neck and neck with JD. Was going for a Hustler... as the reviews were great, but got a 4WD Kubota instead... I never found a machine as good as the old Toro... the new ones are not in that class. Not a bad mower, maybe it isn't heavy duty enough for what I have put it through but a couple of things to keep in mind. Mine has had the original single blades replaced with a generic cutting deck that will take cheaper cox blades which are close to half the cost of the single blade. Also some of the ground I have been mowing isn't the smoothest and with the general bouncing, the height adjustment mechanism tore itself out of the body of the cutter deck, which isn't a major problem if you're able to pull the machine apart yourself and weld it up, but could be costly otherwise. One thing the Husqvarna has over the JD is fuel capacity. My husky holds close to 15-20 litres and my mate who has a JD is lucky if it holds 10. Re: Does anyone have a husqvarna or john deere ride on mower 7May 11, 2010 6:21 pm We love our 19hp Greenfield. Built in Australia, no less. A solid, gutsy, well engineered machine that makes no apologies for not being as "pretty as some of the competition. The 26 hp one would be a ripper. http://www.greenfield.com.au/ Initially we tackled much of a 20 acre property with the Greenfield. In the end we realized it was too much to ask and we bought a 24 hp 4WD John Deere tractor with FEL, slasher and mid mount mower deck. Having the tractor engendered a massive respect for the mighty little Greenfield as the tractor struggled just as much, if not more, with the really tough stuff. One caveat, though - we still use a self-propelled Rover walk behind mower for fine cutting of a few bits of lawn lawn on a slope as the Greenfield does not manage as even a cut as the Rover on a sideways slope. Cheers zeke PS No affiliation with Greenfield. I just love quality engineering and being able to buy Australian. The excellent resale value, even of very old ones, says it all.
