Browse Forums DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair 1 Apr 14, 2010 10:08 am Hi All, I need a bit of guidance with repair to a bathroom wall. The wall is in the ensuite to our master bedroom. We appear to have mould growing in the roof corners. Over a period of time, this mould is starting to spread across the roof. Recently, there appears to be a horizontal strip on the wall above the shower cubicle, where the plaster & paint seemed to be bubbling. I understand that this may be common in a room that does not receive regular sunlight, which is the case with our ensuite. I have a feeling that the nuff nuff that renovated the house prior to us buying, may have painted the ensuite with a normal interior paint. I would imagine that this would, in some part, result in mould. However, would it result in blistering? I am fully expecting that the whole ensuite may require a re-paint with a special purpose interior cover?? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Re: Help with repair to bathroom wall? 2Apr 14, 2010 12:22 pm greggles, Questions I'd be asking myself is, does this room recieve a good amount of ventilation whilst in use (hot showers/baths)? Is there ventilation to this room at all? If by mechanical means (Fan/IXL Tastic unit) does it work properly and does it provide enough exhaust volume of air for the size of the room it's fitted in? I've painted many bathrooms with ordinary low sheen paint and as far as I'm aware non have gone mouldy. I agree that if "bathroom" paint is used it would help the matter too though. Good luck Re: Help with repair to bathroom wall? 3Apr 14, 2010 9:05 pm Sounds to me like you have a ventilation issue. There is no specific pant to use soley in wet areas, unless it is to be imersed in water. The strip you ention actually sounds like the tape you use when setting gyprock. If this starts absorbing too much water, then it will bubble and peel off. only thing to do is remove the tape, hope that the gyprock is still ok, and re-sett and paint. oh, and fix the ventilation in there! The ensuite itself is pretty small, it measures 2650 m x 1080 m. The only ventilation is via a pretty standard fan / tastic unit. I think you might be right about the tape. The damage appears to start with a vertical line about an inch in from the corner of the room (almost the edge of a tape line). The the damage appears to run horizontally across the narrow part of the room at a mid point between the roofline & the tiles for the shower recess. As this area only measures about 300 mm high, it's hard to imagine that someone would need to tape, or join some plaster there? After looking at it again yesterday, I can't help thinking that it may be something more sinister. The worst part of the ensuite is the corner that points to the outside of the house. This corner is where our pitched roof meets a flat roof. DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair Hi All, Hoping someone might be be to provide some advice on my ceiling that needs repair. Photos attached, but seems like the alcove (??) is pulling away.
