Browse Forums DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair 1 Feb 16, 2010 10:40 am Well, we've just had over 100mm of rain over the weekend which is great and not usual for Canberra, however under our house is now a muddy swamp. Our house is built on the side of a slope and the back of the house which is the up slope side is all concrete paving with two drains that are obviously supposed to drain the water (which they do most of the time). I'm after advice on how to stop the water leaking under the house or other options to manage to problem. Also advice on who to talk to about this - ie. plumber, builder, engineer? If this is left unattended what structural issues will we encounter (house is brick veneer, floorboards on brick piers)? Re: Water getting underhouse 3Feb 17, 2010 1:31 pm you have to determine where the water is coming from and dig a trench across the in front of the wall lower than the top of the footingsto intercept this flow. you then should waterproof the front of the wall from ground level down to the footings and then fit an agricultural pipe in the trench over which you should fill the trench with blue metal. Then cover the lot with a forticone plastic and backfill the lot with soilbut before this connect the aggricultural to a storm water pipe. depending on your block of land, you may have contimue around the entire house. without seeing what the layout of the land is, its hard to give advice. check that your gutters and downpipes arent simply blocked you could also install a pit under thehouse and then dig a trench around the perimeter of the house draining to the pit install a pump and pump it to stormwater Use a product like Equisol's Vitalise to clean the deck then coat with a penetrating timber oil. It will look 10 years younger and add value to your home. Visit for… 1 15791 How much are you ahead in payments compared to where the build is at?
