Browse Forums DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair 1 Jan 19, 2010 3:33 pm Hi, The builder has finished installing our new colorbond roof, but there are lots scratches and dings that need to be covered up (he used the roof to act as a working platform). Has anyone got any experiences with touching up a CB roof? Ours is Jasper, and I have not been able to locate a paint that matches it. Any help would be great. Thanks, Steve Re: Touch up paint required for colorbond roof 2Jan 19, 2010 3:39 pm If you are not happy with the state of your roof, it's up to the builder to rectify the damage. Don't go doing it yourself. Built with New Generation (Summit Homes) We own land!... with a slab on it! Plus a shell of a house with stuff inside ! Re: Touch up paint required for colorbond roof 3Jan 19, 2010 3:45 pm All paint brands can match colorbond colours 100%, if your paint dealer can’t, then there is something wrong. The only thing that makes the colour look wrong sometimes is the sheen level of the paint, from different angles it can seem different. A low sheen is the best match, but even that sometimes can look different. Don't go doing it yourself. yeah, I know and I agree with you. the tribunal lady said these sorts of small problems are now at plague levels (i think sydney only), and really, if you want it fixed within two months months, just do it yourself or get another guy in to do it. Its only scratches, and to be honest (it took 6 months to put the new roof on) we are just happy he finished this far. steve Re: Touch up paint required for colorbond roof 8Jan 20, 2010 10:12 am DO NOT ATTEMPT TO SPRAY COLORBOND ROOFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No matter how good you can match the color. Quiet simply colorbond coating and pait fade at different rates and what looks good today will look like crap tomorrow. There is only one way to fix and that is to replace the effected parts of the roof. I know colorbond have some sort of polymer based enamel with their finish (as to acrylic), but this is the closest I have found. Ive also been told there is a risk of the colorbond color aging differently to touch up paint. There is only one way to fix and that is to replace the effected parts of the roof. Hmm.. Is it ok to leave the exposed metal the way it is? There are a lot of little dings and scratches where you can see the shiny surface - There are also area's where nails and screws have been left on the roof and then trodden on, causing it to pierce the surface. I would have thought these expose the metal to possibly rust? maybe a clear lacquer at least? Re: Touch up paint required for colorbond roof 13Jan 20, 2010 10:26 am no it will not rust. What color is the roof?? Re: Touch up paint required for colorbond roof 16Jan 20, 2010 10:31 am You will be better off not spraying, go get a brush on exterior paint, you have more control on the area being coated, spraying covers too much of an area Current status: Busy making the house our home Built PD Francis 29 on our 576m2 block at Reflections in Tarneit Reflections Estate Thread Our Build Thread Re: Touch up paint required for colorbond roof 17Jan 20, 2010 10:33 am How about masking the area, and just spraying and remove the tape Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Re: Touch up paint required for colorbond roof 18Jan 20, 2010 10:36 am You could do that, I personally think it would be easier with a brush, but each to their own I guess. Both ways work, probably cheaper to buy a spray and masking tape I have to admit Current status: Busy making the house our home Built PD Francis 29 on our 576m2 block at Reflections in Tarneit Reflections Estate Thread Our Build Thread Re: Touch up paint required for colorbond roof 19Jan 20, 2010 10:39 am borg no it will not rust. What color is the roof?? Really if you can see it from groudn level is should be repaired, in terms of scratchs> --> Its a split level house - so from the second floor you can see the carnage. You cant see any damage from the ground level, even thoug the road is elevated to the house (too far away). What you can see from the road though is the different angles between the klip-lock's crest's and the flashing of the edge of the house (skewed). If there a creases that have weakened the sheets that should be replace.d -->Yes there are creases (in the crests - its klip-lock 700/jasper). To have the sheets replaced, it will cost me around $1600. $1200 for the building inspector to generate a report to say "they need replacing" (NSW tribunal requires this) and $400 for NSW tribunal assorted costs. Maybe 10 years ago it was the builders responsibility, but not today. As you can see - touch up paint is fast becoming an only option.
