I am only doing the skirting boards and door and window frames and haven't had much experience with high gloss paint - and well, it's dribbled EVERYWHERE and I've got it on the walls as well... *sigh* and as it is a enamel gloss a wet sponge isn't fixing it. In retrospect I would have done it all differently, but I am just wondering if anyone had some hints to fix this? Thank you! Building the Glenaire from Fairhaven in 1C Somerfield Estate Re: Help! How can I fix my sloppy paint job! 2Dec 30, 2009 2:31 pm I would use a fine sandpaper and sand down all the dribbles, then do another coat or 2 over the top - very thin coats! Re: Help! How can I fix my sloppy paint job! 3Dec 30, 2009 4:03 pm I agree with Mikaela on this as far as fixing what's already done goes although you may have to wait a few days for the paint to harden before you can sand it. If it rolls up into little bits under the sandpaper then it's still too soft. The largest part of any paint job is the preparation. Make sure the surfaces are clean and have had a light sand. Painting on a gloss surface will promote runs. Be sure to use water based paint as this will clean off with a wet sponge as long as you clean it off as soon as possible. Buy some "low tack" masking tape from Bunnings and and mask off the areas where you don't want paint. Using regular tape could result in the original paint coming off when you remove the tape. Use drop sheets or old newspapers to prevent drips on the floor. Make sure excess paint is wiped from the brush and then do several light coats rather than try to do the whole thing in one go.
