Browse Forums DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair 1 Dec 15, 2009 9:03 pm Hi, Our arborist finished removing a large gum tree that was smack bang on top of a clay stormwater pipe, which it had pretty much crushed. Unfortunately, a large chunk of wood from the stump grinding went 6m or so down the drain and blocked it at a corner. We had the plumber guy in with the eel, bit it wasnt strong enough to break up the wood. Any idea's on what I can do to clear this one? Thanks, Steve Re: Lump of wood stuck in storm water drain 2Dec 22, 2009 6:35 pm Hey Steve, what happened with this? Did you get the wood out? www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Lump of wood stuck in storm water drain 3Jan 10, 2010 9:40 am Nope - the wood didnt budge. I rang the usual experts and asked a plumber to take a look. He charged me $160 to pop an eel down there to say it wont budge and left. After pricing some Vinidex storm water pipe at $11 per 6m lengths, I dug it up and replaced it myself. The old pipes were terracotta (sp?). I rang a company who lined terracotta pipes with some sort of resin. They wanted $2500 to reline them, which was just silly. So in the end it cost me one saturday, $80 bux worth of pipe, pvc cement and joiners (plus the odd brewski), and I dug up the whole line and replaced it. My Labour though is worth about $300 sydney dollars, but I was happy spending that time on it, as I got a great result. We had a few downpours over christmas and it worked beautifully! I tried to attached a before and after photo, but they wont up load. Picture too big maybe? steve Re: Lump of wood stuck in storm water drain 4Jan 10, 2010 11:01 am Oh well I glad that at least you have a result of some sort and it worked! Well done.
