Browse Forums DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair 1 Dec 08, 2009 8:50 am Hi, The toilet cistern in my laundry is plastic and the top has yellowed somewhat over the years, probably from exposure to sun (it's under a window). Does anyone have any tips or hints on how I can clean/whiten the discoloured plastic? Thanks in advance. Re: How do you clean yellowed plastic? 3Dec 24, 2009 9:19 am You are exactly right. The polymer in the cistern reacts with the UV making it craze and discolour. Once this occurs its too late to do anything. I suggest you purchase a viterous china cistern if it exposed to sunlight on a regular basis Regards Shane Re: How do you clean yellowed plastic? 4Dec 24, 2009 2:29 pm You can paint the plastic, I do it with car parts all the time.
