Wasn't really sure where I'd plonk this but chose here to start with!
I know you're all a chatty opinionated bunch which is fantasic because I do want lots and lots of opinions on this! Feel free to opine
So, let's say that, hypothetically, someone builds a brand spanking new home. unfortunately there are issues with the wet areas; floors not level , terrible job on the tiling etc from the get go.
within a very short period of time from moving in everything starts to go pear shaped and the showers, specifically, start to show significant signs of water damage - damage to the abutting walls is particularly evident. Some minor fixes (not by the homeowner) are undertaken to "remedy" this. fast forward a couple of years and an independant inspection notes the generally shocking condition of the showers. Basically all grout from waist level down has washed away and tiles are barely holding on; serious water damage to walls; mould etc Six year old house at this stage. another - to some extent purely cosmetic - "remedy" is implemented (not by the homeowner): new grout where needed but basically lots of silicone to cover the nasty bits. fast forward a few years and grout is washing away again, silicone is falling out and mould is rampant, walls are spongey, skirtings are puffy (sounds like the 12 days of Christmas!).
Just thinking back to my previous long term home and never experienced anything like this with the showers/grouting. I should also say that were the tiler did other work around the house e.g. kitchen, the tiles there lifted/cracked and the grout disintergrated in parts. Generally I think it's poor workmanship but of course I am biased!
is this acceptable wear and tear on a home not yet 10 years old?
Go ahead and thanks for your views!
