Browse Forums DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair 1 Nov 05, 2009 3:22 pm We're retiling and someone suggested pulling off the skirting so the tiler can tile to the wall then we can put skirt over the tiles to make it look neater. Since we're going to rip off the old skirting anyway we figure we will modernize with new skirting. Should we then also replace the architraves to match the new modern skirting? Just thinking about future resale. Re: If replacing skirting should we replace architraves too? 2Nov 05, 2009 6:19 pm you would have to take off the architraves anyway otherwise the tiler will have to cut aroung the bottom of the aarchitrave where it butts the floor Re: If replacing skirting should we replace architraves too? 4Nov 06, 2009 1:15 pm Its not overly difficult to replace the skirting and architrave however you do need to know somewhat of what your doing, I would advise tileing upto the skirting and then paying the tiler to silicon against the skirting this will hide all gaps etc, The reason I say this is there is a known issue with skirtings being hard down against the tile that when the house has movement, the skirting being nailed to the frame will be pulled down and snap the tile, doesnt happin very often but happins...also the tiler can cut the bottom off the architraives to tile under it then he should silicon around to create a smooth finish. If you do it my way you'll pay the tiler a few hundred to silicon ontop of his cost to tile If you do it the way your speaking of , you'll replace all skirts and archs, have to paint them all which you'll do after the tileings done i assume, you still wont have the tile to the skirt siliconed and you'll spend quite a more pennies. However If you insisted on changing the skirts and archs for appearence reasons I'd pay a carpenter, its easy to measure cut and nail but they actually pack the archs etc aswell and you can end up making a real balls of things if you dunno what you 're doing. I do like the CA glue and activator idea but like you said, working time in non existent. I use the sika PU glue but it needs to be clamped firm. I had a joint move… 4 9185 I already have the doors and architraves installed as pictured. My question is which size n type of skirting would go with the architraves? I originally wanted a winder,… 0 3263 |
