Browse Forums DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair 1 Oct 30, 2009 12:52 pm I need some advice on how to fix and paint a wall. We've just bought a house and someone had put up cork tiles on the kitchen wall with double-sided tape. When I pulled them off, the wall peeled, exposing what looks like cardboard underneath the paint and top layer (sorry have no idea what anything is called). I'd like to patch it up and repaint. DH thinks we should cut the peeling bit back to where it holds fast, then fill with something and paint. Any tips? Yes - your DH is right (... he is always right ) You can use joint compound (a few layers) and then make sure to use a primer before applying your coats of paint. Also make sure that you peal off any of the top layer gyprock "paper" that is still loose. If it's a big area, just cut out and remove the gyprock and replace with a new piece. Generally, when removing wall tiles from gyprock - the approach is to cut out the gyproeck and replace. It's easier and cleaner. Re: How do I fix a wall that has peeled fibreboard/plaster 5Oct 30, 2009 1:55 pm Thanks so much The tiles werent actual ceramic tiles, but cork tiles stuck onto a board and then stuck up on the wall with double-sided tape (which i only realised after I'd started pulling it off). I suspect it was done buy a former tenant. I was tihnking it may actually be easier and less fiddly to replace the wall rather than patch it up. The area is about a 80x50cm but is only peeling in small bits. We will eventually be tearing the wall out but don't have the funds for a kitchen reno right now. Any ideas about what to paint a lovely 80s pinky beige coloured kitchen??
