Browse Forums DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair 1 Aug 27, 2009 12:58 pm Hi all, the house has cedar cladding (weatherboards) down to the slab. Some concrete has been laid outside and the bottom cedar board has what appears to be some sort of flexible sealant fitted. During heavy rainfall, water comes into the kitchen area so it's fair to say the sealant isn't doing the job. Would it be correct to remove a couple of the bottom weatherboards exposing the wall frame bottom bearer and fit some flashing. Nail it to the bottom bearer with gal clouts and leave an overhang to the outside and put back the weatherboards. The problem with that is that water could still get underneath the flashing. How can it be repaired so that water can no longer pass inside. Would the concrete that has been laid outside have to be removed so the flashing can be placed in there, then new concrete laid? What to do? Re: Flashing repair at slab question. 3Aug 30, 2009 8:35 am Thanks for the reply, after much deliberation and head scratching I've decided to lay a single course of bricks alongside the problem area. I'll leave a gap between the brick and the cladding and mix in some bondcrete to the mortar. Apparently it only happens during very heavy rainfall so I'm thinking this will create a barrier and prevent that bit of water coming in.
