Browse Forums DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair 1 Aug 12, 2009 6:33 pm can anyone advise me about the most appropriate insulation product to use in my roof? Many installers have approached me, some say pink batts, some say greenstuff. I know the rating should be at least 3.5 for my location, however, I want the insulation to have sound reducing properties as I live in an international flight path. Re: Insulation batts 2Aug 12, 2009 6:53 pm "Pink batts' or 'Greenstuff' are just particular brand names. The brand you use essentially is irrelevant, its the R rating that counts. Most manufacturers make a noise-control sound insulation batt. Check out hte various companies web-sites which will have all their product details Re: Insulation batts 4Aug 12, 2009 7:12 pm Pink Batts, Insulco, Greenstuff, Bradford to name a few Whether you go for glasswool or polyester is up to you and your wallet (polyester is dearer) Re: Insulation batts 6Aug 13, 2009 5:00 pm Generally the polyester is better if there is going to be regular contact as in a roof cavity with a storage area etc Glasswool is fine in a wall as its never seen Re: Insulation batts 10Aug 14, 2009 2:24 pm Chech which one WON'T burn by holding a naked flame (match) to it. If it burns don't touch it and don't take the supplier/makers word, test it yourself. Particularly in the case of using 12volt halogen down lights. Re: Insulation batts 11Aug 16, 2009 10:47 am camelia, If you are after soundblocking for aircraft noise, then I would suggest either blown in rockwool or blown in cellulouse. The key advantages with these products will be the snug fit they provide in those difficult to get to areas, ie close to the edges of the buildings where most installaers do not bother to tightly fit batt type products, and loosefill will also stop gasp around the joists etc in the celiing. They both also have reasonable sound absorbing qualties. Cellulouse is made from recycled newspaper and the installation can be stabilised with a glue whilst being installed if desired. Re: Insulation batts 12Aug 16, 2009 11:12 am I have the blown in stuff, does anyone know if has to be resettled after people walk on it. Someone told me it needs this process done to stop it flying around. I have just had ducted air done & I have heard stories re catching fire. Found the answer.
