Browse Forums DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair 1 Jul 24, 2009 2:34 pm I need suggestion for covering a north facing pergola. We need to revamp our pergola, some batterns have rotted, the shade cloth is flying in the wind. I have a beautiful wisteria on it. We had someone come and give us a quote, he sugested to cover it with polycarbonate metalic reflective roofing. Now has anybody got this kind of cover, if so, does it get very hot in summer? I consider two options, removing of the shadecloth and letting the wisteria grow over it in summer or remove the wisteria and cover it with what this guy suggested. Any suggestions would be much appreciated Maggie Re: covering for a timber pergola ? 2Jul 24, 2009 4:09 pm You need to use the good stuff with polycarbonate roofing. The better ones let in light but block out heat. Check out Laserlite 'Apollo' (not the cheaper 2000) - around $15.50 per metre If you are looking at the Roma profile (corrugated) you will need to ensure the pergola has a 5 degree pitch. Otherwise the Greca profile can be used on a 1 degree pitch. The rotting battens would need to be replaced with minimum 70x35mm treated pine. One more question if I may, what stain (make, oil, water based) would you suggest? It was not painted previously, just left raw in its original state. Thank for your time maggie got it. thanks.
