Have a new wooden bifold door which I intend to stain. I was told that nail holes repaired with standard putty will be obvious after staining and is prone to discolouration over time. Someone suggested that I mix sawdust from the wood offcuts with PVA glue and fill in the holes with that. The colour match should be better and is less prone to discolouration. Anyone tried this before? I am experimenting with different sawdust at the moment, ranging from fine powder from sandpaper to larger chunks from a saw. Any tips on what works best? Not sure what to expect as I haven't done this type of thing before. Cheers, Ray. Re: Filling in nail holes with putty 2May 01, 2007 8:55 pm I did it with an old dresser I was restoring.
