Browse Forums DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair Re: gutter and fascia replacing help !! 2May 19, 2009 11:35 am Both jobs quite easy. Guttering is definately easier with 2 sets of hands. Lengths of gutter can bend and kink easily... Facia is easy. Getting level facia and correct fall of gutter is fiddliest bit. Re: gutter and fascia replacing help !! 3May 26, 2009 1:04 am I am about to replace a 12m length of our gutter and fascia as well. This is because we are putting up a new patio. We will end up with an additional 38m2 roof area coming into the gutter so I am looking at replacing the existing gutter with box gutter. All the existing gutters for WA seem to come with quite small profiles. The best I could find was Lysaght's quad gutter, but that is only max 115mm here in WA. I think I'd like the box gutter to be about 170mm across and 75mm high at the back and 100 at the front. I am a little concerned about how to attach the box gutter to the new fascia though. The fascia is a rebated fascia (I think it is this one), and I will attach a beam to this using rafter strengthening brackets which the new gutter can also sit on. The trusses for the patio are at 3m spans, so the box gutter will be supported by the rebated fascia, the attachment beam and trusses at 3m spans. Do you think the gutter will need extra support than what is provided by the trusses? Also, I'm not entirely sure how to connect the gutter to the fascia given it will have to be custom made. Not sure that the clips/brackets that you can buy will be sufficient as all the commercial gutters on offer are obviously a perfect fit for these whereas a box gutter won't be. Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks, Chris Re: gutter and fascia replacing help !! 4Jun 30, 2009 10:58 pm If your gutter is custom made, rolled etc.. you will need them to make you brackets to suit the gutter. External brackets sit on the outside of gutter, you string line your fall, then put the external brackets to the line, screw them into the fascia, then sit you gutter in an clip them over all done bingo.. well providing you put you stop ends, if needed, or corners (joins) or even down pipe nozel.. much easier to do before you put your gutter up, while it's down on the ground with you.. Also before you put your gutter into the brackets, peal off the protective plastic.. best to leave it on just before your ready to sit into the brackets, to avoid scratches of course External Bracket looks like this (depending on gutter they are all diff, as well as you can get the same colour as your gutter) You need a bracket every 1 meter Cheers Mano Re: gutter and fascia replacing help !! 5Jul 01, 2009 11:51 pm Thanks. We have the fascia, patio frame and half of the gutter up, but had to stop the rest until we get a break in the weather. I won't be able to use external brackets to but I believe that the patio structure will help hold the weight of the gutter. I will start with that and look to add some brackets at a later stage. I suspect the brackets will need to be custom made as you mention. Thanks again, Chris No, I even have sections of narrowness where the tiles won't slide up any further.
