As a rule Ozito GMC and Ryobi are very cheap and as such have limited working life, and why tradies rarely waste their time with them, unless they want a 'throw away' unit for a particular job. Arfur Re: I need a drill…. 23Mar 02, 2009 5:02 pm Uncle Arfur…..yes, I understand exactly what you have said, and I totally agree if I was a bloke and used the thing every day.
But, I’m only looking to hang some wall artwork on the brick walls outside. Quite truthfully….the drill will not be used that much. I’ll bet you the thing will outlast me, and I’ll be leaving it to my daughter in my will. You'll find the cheap cordless stuff a pain in the butt, the batteries don't last long and after a few months don't hold their charge so you need to charge them before you need to use them each time. Re: I need a drill…. 25Mar 02, 2009 7:40 pm Duke my partner has mainly DeWalt stuff and his batteries are pretty good. He has plenty of spares and charges them in his radio. He still has dewalt tools which he bought as an apprentice and still going strong. Luke…..I went for a cord drill, I don’t think the battery ones are very powerful. Although the sucker is quite heavy!!! Quote: Although the sucker is quite heavy!!! Precisely why I suggested a tool specialist who would have sold you something powerful yet light enough for you to handle and not overly expensive --- to pass down to your daughter Ozitos are notoriously heavy so when they (soon) die you can use them for what they are primarily designed as, boat anchors or wheel chocks. If I can make a suggestion, don't take the easy way out and drill into the soft mortar, drill into the bricks where a plug will hold better. Arfur Re: I need a drill…. 31Mar 05, 2009 12:52 pm Good post. And how did you know I drill into the mortar????? Its no mystery Michelle, most DIYers do it taking the easy way out, especially bolting a plate to attach a pergola etc and wonder why a dynabolts wont tighten as they work loose in the soft mortar. Same with a light rawlplug that just turns in the mortar. That's why another poster suggested a masonry drill bit in a hammer drill to use on the brickwork.
