If they have a dimmer, it will most likely be that, an you will need a new one.. as I had the same issue.. only if you have a dimmer that is Re: Crackling light switch 6Feb 18, 2009 10:04 pm Sounds like the wiring hasn't been terminated at the switch properly.
We had the same trouble with our toilet light (didn't crackle, but did work intermittantly) , turns out the electrical apprentice didn't wire the batten fix at the globe end well enough. Electrician was honest when he came back to fix it and said "Lucky it didn't burn your house down". Gee, thanks! Something I would be getting looked at asap, before something nasty like a spark sets something alight inside the wall cavity. Cheers. Re: Crackling light switch 7Feb 19, 2009 5:56 am Thanks everyone for your input

If it is crackling then there is a bad contact and this will create a hot spot that will cause a fire.
"the fire was suspected to be started by an electrical fault" How many times do you hear that on the news? This is exactly what they are talking about.. get it replaced immediately by an electrician. cheers Col Nation For information on caring for wool and other carpet and upholstery go to www.woolsafe.com.au Re: Crackling light switch 9Feb 19, 2009 8:09 am Agree with Col Nation - it sounds dangerous, I would definitely be getting it checked by a professional, and I am surprised that ppl are advising you it isn't to be frank! Re: Crackling light switch 11Feb 19, 2009 4:02 pm Actually, guys we now no longer use it, for that very reason. Have notified the agent & let's see whether she gets it repaired.

I have a new house. Awhile ago the electrician came out over another issue he said they had installed some faulty light switches.. The switches move. I now have to get him back to look at the garage light switch and the rest of the switches in the house. Re: Crackling light switch 14Mar 02, 2009 8:52 pm I had the same problem with my house two days ago. It's potentially dangerous but I was able to fix it.
I turned off the main switch (MAIN SWITCH at the power panel outside the house), unplugged the light switch, re-seated the wires properly then put them back again. It's working fine now. Legally, you need to use Electrician to do that for you Re: Crackling light switch 15Mar 05, 2009 1:22 am Quote: Legally, you need to use Electrician to do that for you Yes you do, because should you have troubles later with an electrical fault or fire anywhere in the house be prepared for the insurance company to scrub you IF they find out you have been monkeying with the wiring or switches.
