Browse Forums DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair 1 Feb 02, 2009 8:11 am Greetings all,
I have notice a number small holes appearing in my roof ceiling and I was wondering if any one may now what may be causing it? A painter friend of mine said that it looked like the head of a nail may be causing it due to movement of the house. The size of the hole is a perfect circle and is the size of a normal nail. The house is five years old Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. Perhaps the roof is sagging? Re: why are small holes appearing in my house ceiling? 3Feb 02, 2009 10:53 am We built with Coral Homes 11 years ago and about 2 yrs after we moved in we had nail heads showing in our ceiling throughout the whole house. They were banged back in, filled and painted over. I thought it was a common thing to happen (so they said at the time). We had this in a home once and it turned out to be small brown termites that were in the wood when the home was built. A pesty dealt with them and they never returned. cheers Col Nation For information on caring for wool and other carpet and upholstery go to www.woolsafe.com.au Re: why are small holes appearing in my house ceiling? 7Feb 21, 2009 9:10 pm Some wasps burrow or create small holes in wood as dens. You may want to look into an exterminator. Re: why are small holes appearing in my house ceiling? 8Feb 22, 2009 8:06 am Woooo, lets not get ahead of ourselves guys.
Its probably just nail popping, which if you do a google search you can find out all about it. I'm not pasting the link just because of copyright on the pages I've read. Basically, popping can occur with screws or nails, but more common with nails. From what I've read, its caused by movement in the wall due to a space between the plaster and the studs. This can happen for two reasons… shrinkage in the wood or improper nailing/screwing. Usually, if one pops, more along the stud will pop also - if its occuring in a straight line, I'd say it was that and not a well organised group of bugs. Sorry guys I couldn't resist It can be repaired and I'd get onto it before it does more damage to your paintwork or other areas. You can do a patch up job and it'll probably happen again or get someone in to give advice - longer screws maybe. Either way, I'd get it checked out. Note: I think plasterboard are glued on by some then screwed to ensure it doesn't cause a gap. Would love an expert to confirm what I'm sayin is right Re: why are small holes appearing in my house ceiling? 10Feb 09, 2010 11:16 am Yes glued and screwed. Are the indents about 5mm across? Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Thankyou for your advice. We do have Caesar coming out and hopefully resolve the issue for us. 4 18757 Recently I moved to a 30 year old house and found within few months there are small brown nests in the brick mortar and few small round holes in few places of brick… 0 22687 it depends on the natural ground level, if they excavated their boundary wall needed to be built as a retaining wall.
