Browse Forums DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair 1 Jan 08, 2009 11:14 am Hi all,
Thinking about replacing the painted timber bargeboards at each end of the house (gable roof). The current ones are starting to rot a bit (the house is 18 years old). Is it better to replace with timber, or use the colorbond-type material seen on newer houses? Would anyone know the difference in cost per metre, or what type of tradesman to call? Eimaj Re: replaing bargeboards - timber or colorbond/zinc? 2Jan 08, 2009 6:06 pm The old ones were probably oregon pine so have lasted well.
If using timber you will probably use engineered treated pine (the pre-primed stuff) Make sure any cuts are resealed with a proper preservative. If you tell me a size I can tell you a price. The timber versus colorbond thing is up to you and the look you want I guess Re: replaing bargeboards - timber or colorbond/zinc? 3Jan 09, 2009 2:23 pm Dukekamaya The old ones were probably oregon pine so have lasted well. From everyone's experience, what would you install? Timber lapped and capped OR colorbond? Thank you. 0 2825 Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 15839 Your house roof does not show rusting other than some surface rust on the flashings. In my opinion you dont need to replace or paint the roof other than treat surface rust… 1 10105 |
