Browse Forums DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair 1 Nov 27, 2008 12:39 pm Hello,
As the title says I am looking for new lights for my kitchen and adjoining dining room. I will start with the following; - I *like* the look of downlights - I am feeling guilty about liking downlights.. - The room has a pair of ceiling speakers so flush mounts will look better - the ceiling has no insulation sitting on it. I have a flat metal roof which has some foil and glass beneath it. So I suspect that the heat xfer issue will be minimal for me - from what I have seen the CFL downlights are not strong enough for a work area (kitchen) - would be nice for dining room to be dimmable - running extra cables is difficult due the flat roof. - prefer 'cool white' light. - the lights in the kitchen tend to be on all night, while we are awake anyway. Aside from wiring, the halogens appear to be the best option but I feel that there must be a better (more efficient) option to halogens - I just cant seem to find it. This is doing my head in..Any ideas ? cheers Re: Please help choose some lights... 3Nov 28, 2008 2:24 pm thanks Ed,
my ceiling height is just the normal 2.4m??? In the shops that I have seen the CFL downlights, if you put your hand say half a metre underneath them you can see the beam on your palm. Take it down much further and you lose it. Sure, a lot of this is beam focus. Ed, you say 'bright' so I am assuming yours are cool white ? Do you find them good for working (ie. food prep) ? How densely are they installed ? thanks david Hi VK, Think it's worth investing time in an Owner Builder course to equip you with basic knowledge on Australian Building Industry and its regulations. Also, I suggest… 11 23526 So I'm just reading up on this ecosystem of lights. I'm planning on putting deck lights along the outside edge of a large deck. Will need about 3 packs (18 lights) plus… 0 23025 Hi brains trust, We had Essastone Unique Calacatta specificed for our bench tops. This has now since been discontinued.
