Browse Forums DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair 1 Feb 27, 2024 5:07 pm We have a hot water copper pipe that runs from our hot water unit on one side of our house under a concrete slab to our bathroom and laundry...old house so not ideal. The pipe has already leaked in 2 spots which has meant we've needed to dig up the slab in a couple of spots. Chances are the pipe will continue to degrade..so my best option is to re-route the pipe...and the only way I can do this is to have it run across our roof (which is flat). I can't go through the roof or around the boundary of the house...I won't explain, but trust me! Anyway, I had one plumber quote me a small fortune to do this. Before I get another quote, I was wondering whether I could just do the main copper piping myself. ie I would connect most of the pipe up a wall...across the roof and partially through to my laundry. I'd then get the plumber back to just connect to the hot water system at one end...and the current pipes in the laundry/bathroom at the other. I have found these Shark Bite connections at Reece that don't require solder (https://www.reece.com.au/search/pipe-fi ... kbite-c524), so I'm thinking it can't be that difficult? The videos that I've seen on the product say they are very good and durable. I'm happy to do the easy slog work and let the plumber do the important bits. I'm pretty handy...is this a project to consider...or is it an "avoid at all costs"? - bearing in mind, cost of living stuff has hit us quite hard just at the minute, so I don't think I can afford to get a plumber to do the entire job.
