I'm planning to have my roof re-tiled but i am not sure what the different types of finishings are. Could anyone please explain to me what (points below) mean - Glazed Finish means - Random Matt Glaze - Unglazed - Random Glaze Is terracotta roof tiles better than concrete roof tiles? what are the differences between both tiles? Also, I'm planning to buy terracotta roof tiles from Boral. Are they any good? Thanks Re: Queries on Retiling Roof 2Nov 02, 2008 1:33 am I prefer concrete tiles because they fit together better and are less prone to cracks and chips. Also in the future if you decide to repaint them another colour they wont chip as easily and show through the original colour. The biggest bonus is that they are cheaper . Hello, Thanks for your reply just wondering... does concrete roof tiles absorb water? I completely disagree. I much prefer Terracotta. Drive around an estate over ten years old. You can spot the Terracotta roofs very easily. They're the ones with colour.... concrete fades and looks old and then the whole house looks worse. True that they can be resprayed, but they always look plasticy and horrible when they have been done. And respraying sort of is the cost difference. so to say concrete is cheaper is maybe a bit of false economy? My roof is something I don't want to be spending time maintaining.... I really want Terracotta.... but the person I'm building with doesn't really... Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Jo Thanks for that Jo... but as concrete is cheaper does it absorb water? i'm considering terracotta tiles for my roof but i'm still unsure. :S Thanks Re: Queries on Retiling Roof 7Nov 02, 2008 5:58 pm I_BUILD Sorry Jo but I still stand by my comment That's alright I_B, I know you're stubborn and unreasonable. Grace, I think Terracotta may actually absorb minimally more water than concrete. But as I said, from what I understand it is a minimal difference. But both are perectly fine for collecting rainwater for tanks. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself.
