Browse Forums DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair 1 May 22, 2023 7:50 pm Recently purchased a property where rainwater from all downpipes are flowing in a pit then to a stormwater sewer. None of them is flowing in the tank. Its a charged water systen. I also, checked it by putting hose in all the downpipes none is filling in tank but to a pit then to sewer. I couldn't find any marks of wetness around the house to show if its leakage. House is 10yrs old. rainwater motor fetches water from mains to toilets/garden. Checked with three plumbers but they've no idea at all. Unfortunately don't have drainage diagram. Re: Rainwater Tank not filling 2May 22, 2023 9:49 pm Stormwater must never be drained to the sewer. What pipes are at the tank? It isn't a charged system if the pipes drain to a pit. 3in1 Supadiverta. Rainwater Harvesting Best Practice using syphonic drainage. But if it is a ground level open pit, then it is no longer a charged system. layman1 Checked with three plumbers but they've no idea at all. No surprises there. The pipes have obviously been altered and there would be a reason for this. If all downpipes use to drain to the tank via a charged system, then most probably there were either issues with the overflow capacity during heavy rain and/or issues with the charged system's ability to transfer the volume of water produced during heavy rain which caused water to back up in the gutters. Another issue may have been the delivery of poor quality water to the end fixtures. Unfortunately, all of these issues are common but easy to overcome when you know how. To re-establish the charged system, you really need to do all of the necessary calculations that take into account your area's 1:20 ARI rainfall intensity, the roof area harvested and the available hydraulic head to determine the correct pipe sizes. If the system was in fact abandoned due to poor design issues, then it is pointless to simply reconnect same, 3in1 Supadiverta. Rainwater Harvesting Best Practice using syphonic drainage.
