Browse Forums DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair 1 Mar 23, 2022 7:29 am Hi I'm upgrading my deck/ balcony with a steel ledger. The old deck wasn't flashed and water entry at deck house junction has resulted in rotting of sections of the wall plate. I've cut the bad sections out and will set a steel ledger plate 100x50 RHS on the wall plate. Do I need a waterproof barrier behind and under the steel ledger plate as shown in the photo. I've used an aluminium foil flashing with bitumen and polyethylene - but see that it's a non exposed flashing. Just wondering if it might collect water and lead to corrosion of the gal ledger plate. I intend to flash the top of the ledger plate when the joists are added.
