Browse Forums DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair 1 Dec 27, 2020 9:23 am Hi everyone, I was wondering if someone in the forum could assist me with a problem. The side of the house is paved with brick pavers by the previous owner. The gap between the paving and the external wall was originally filled up by cement . It has now started to come apart. The area outside the laundry door has recently started to have soil swell up from the gap. I investigated by removing some cement and found that swollen soil is very light and aerated but moist. Initially i thought it was caused by insects/ants, but digging a bit lower i coudl not see any signs of ants/insects. So I pushed the soil back down, but the next morning it comes back up again. As you can see from pic 4, the soil is being pushed through the gap, with the cement in place I note that only the area outside the laundry door is like this, rest of the perimeter is fine. Pic 1 & 2 show the soil swell up in the morning, while pic 3 shows the soil after i lightly push down on it. Please note that this is more apparent when the cement is not removed as per pic 4 I am not sure what is causing this as the soil is not clay, but sandy soil (probably paving underlay). I dont know if it is issue with the plumbing (as it is just outside the laundry) caused by leaking pipe? I have been here 10 years, and this is the first time I've seen this. Many thanks for reading my post and I hope that someone could help me with this problem.
