Browse Forums DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair 1 Jan 14, 2010 9:00 am Does anyone know if the dishwasher should be connected to the hot or cold (or both pipes) pipes? Today, a plumber installed my dishwasher to what he says is the cold tap (Blue symbol on tap nut)...however, just some niggling doubts alerted me to the possibility he may have connected it to the hot supply. The reasons are; The hot and cold pipes are arranged with the cold on the left and the hot on the right. When he connected the mixer he soon realised the glitch...he didn't really say why he did this. He fixed the problem by switching the flexible hoses around (easy). However, photographs I took when the pipes were installed show the copper "T" piece soldered to what looks like the hot pipe. I'm not saying he's wrong but I dont understand how it could be the cold pipe. Does this matter? If it is wrong can it be easily corrected? How can I know for sure? Re: Plumbing dishwasher dilemma 2Jan 16, 2010 12:22 pm Mine is just connected to the cold, I only worked this out because I have an electric heat controller which lights up when the hot tap is on, and when the dishwasher is on, no hot water is used as the light dosnt turn on. Do you have a photo its too hard to tell by your description. If its wrong it can be fixed, not sure if it is a problem connecting to the hot tap. Good luck Re: Plumbing dishwasher dilemma 3Jan 16, 2010 12:42 pm If you feel adventurous you could disconnect the dishwasher hose from the mini stop tap(presumably under the sink) then put a container below this tap. Turn tap on slowly and let run for a little while. If correct cold water if not... hot water. Dirk Re: Plumbing dishwasher dilemma 5Feb 07, 2010 7:43 pm 9 times out of 10 dishwashers should generally be connected to the cold supply - as majority have their own electric heater. I know that with ours we can't connect it to the hot water - the manual advises that some of the plastic parts in the water path may warp if we do. Serves us right for not reading the manual Today is under construction. Thank you for understanding. Plumbing dishwasher dilemma 8Aug 08, 2012 1:21 am So glad to find this thread!!
