Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Sep 26, 2008 9:58 pm We will have a roofed Alfresco area (4800x4200) at the back of our house and intend to have a merbau deck for the flooring. We were wondering if it is better to have the house slab continue undeneath the deck or concrete strip footing along the border only. Have heard water can pool underneath the deck if there is a slab and compromise the sub floor structure?? Any Opionions/Experiences? Re: Alfresco - Concrete Slab or Strip Footing? 2Sep 26, 2008 11:15 pm This thread won't answer your specific question.... but it gives some structural information about the difference between strip footings and slab for an alfresco..... With the information that to_do_list (Mike) gave in the thread in mind.... a slab would seem an unnecessary expense if you are going to add decking.
As for the pooling on the slab.... I'm sure Mike will also answer that when he sees this post. Anyway, here's the link to the thread talking about slab vs strip footings (referring to my house.... but would apply to any I guess) Jo https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.p ... =engineery I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Alfresco - Concrete Slab or Strip Footing? 3Sep 28, 2008 8:03 pm Whilst pouring a slab seems like an exspensive waste, keep in mind that decks under the building code must be 300mm minimum above the ground.
I have seen the result of decks built too close. Water won't pool on concrete if the fall is screed correctly. Re: Alfresco - Concrete Slab or Strip Footing? 4Sep 29, 2008 3:36 pm Thanks for the feedback. Have spoken to the builder and they will only provide a flat level slab to Alfresco, it is up to me to ensure water able to run off. Based on this have requested strip footing. I get the feeling it's a bit of an inconvenience for them... yep sounds good make the footing bigger to to allow for the pipe in the middle 3 7296 PM me your email. I have a build excavation calculator you can use based on your plans to double check what your builder is telling you. Cheers Simeon 1 10205 I've dug some footings to embed a post anchor into. My holes are around 450mm deep which I'll put a 200mm stirrup into. The bottom of these holes seem firm enough. … 0 3296 |
