Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Sep 25, 2008 12:37 am I really puzzled as to where to post this - it didn't seem to fit anywhere very specifically.
I have a large colourbond shed and currently the floor is concrete slabs direct onto the earth. I have several wooden cupboards/wardrobes/linen presses which I would like to put there to store various tools, paints, bits and pieces. However, having had a bad experience elsewhere with white ants I am not sure if it is asking for trouble to just place them direct on the slabs. I could I suppose lay them on something to lift them off the ground but that might make them a bit rickety and unsafe. I don't want to go to a lot of expense but I was wondering if there is anything I could lay over the slab floor of the shed which would make the wood less likely to be a target. I really would prefer not to have the shed sprayed or treated. Any suggestions ? I was wondering about laying down some cheap vinyl flooring or rubber underlay or even outdoor carpet, heavy duty plastic, anything really. I guess almost nothing will deter a really determined white ant (I am told) but is there something that would reduce the risk? What's wrong with acting like an ostrich and burying your head in the sand sometimes? Some days it can stop you from having to look at the lemmings! Re: Shed Flooring 2Sep 25, 2008 7:39 pm Why not sit the cupboards on some treated pine sleepers, the ants won't be as attracted if they have to climb over them.
