Thought I'd give an update on the cubby construction process. The story so far...we already had a cubby building from the old place (new buyers didn't want it so we brought it with us) it's from Aaron's Outdoors (The Homestead I think).
The cubby is elevated but I'm extended the elevated platform beyond the cubby to provide a fort out the front....all up about 2.4 metres wide x 4.5 metres long x 1.5 metres high. The idea is to have a sandpit under one side (under the cubby) and an outdoor toy storage spot in the other half.
Cubby faces directly north and will have a verandah so good solar design....
So initial set out....keep in mind the cubby is intended to be surrounded by native plants...rather than weeds.... will get to that later....

Back frame in and concreted....front frame in place and braced ready for concrete.....spent half a day digging two holes for the back which is why I hired the auger for the rest of them. Although I got massively bruised shins from the b*gger....I questioned the parentage of the machine on several occasions....

Side rails at top up....bit of an *rse about way of doing it but really helped with markout, getting things square, plumb, and true. And the rails helped me put to posts up on my own....G-clamps are my friends.

I've almost finished the handrails around the front, and have laid the decking for the fort....sorry forgot to take a picture
Unfortunately I have to work around the weather particularly wind as the cubby walls are preassembled and tend to fly....hoping to do that on the weekend.....once the cubby building is in I can cut the posts to size....so far about six days ...all done on my own...well the apprentice helped.
Over engineered....yes....all treated pine and galvanised wood screws....but I figure when the neighbourhood kids see it...my kids will get popular...gotta give the poor kids some way of countering their weird old man...
Anyway busy weekend ahead....phew!
