Tiles v pavers v decking..... Tough one but a few suggestions. Lookat the total price, inlcuding labour and materials, Decking might not be that expensive, by the tme you add grout, adhesives, cutting and tile costs. What size area are you talking? Agree with continuing the flow from in the house to outside, just bec areful that it 'it isnt too much'. Sounds dumb but I have seen some places where a change in color or materials would have saved the house from looking like an Ikea shop. Got some photos of a display house?
