Covering the roof with any sort of acrylic or glass is also a great way to go but I've seen many that get dirty (and catch leaves etc) and can sometimes be tricky to clean the top. You can have chairs out there when you need/want to sit in the sun. Most bbqs come on wheels, so if it looks like it will be really smokey, just wheel it to the egde where smoke can escape easier.
