Hey guys,
We are currently about to have our roof finished, and have been thinking about a few options for the yard, and I have 3, er, 4 questions.
1. If we wanted to build the back yard up by around 30cm (to reduce the height of a retaining wall under 1.5m to avoid council submission) and we just fill the dirt against the fence (with some backfill etc) or would the weight of the topsoil eventually damage the fence? The width of the yard is 4m at the narrowest and around 6.5m at the widest, with a slope down to the fence, so I assume we wouldn't be able to just do it.
2. If that's true, we have to have a double lapped and capped fence per our estate rules, would it be feasible to build a mini-retaining wall (say 2 cinder blocks high) and then build the fence on top? Is that even a thing?
3. We want to terrace around our alfresco, which currently sits about 1.6m above the lowest point of the yard, but only about 2m away from the slab. Is this doable? Will engineering design allow for this?
4. Is it possible to place a glass balustrade on top of a retaining wall?
I will run this all past our builders, but forewarned is forearmed or something right?
Thanks for any advice, can post photos later tonight if they help.
Cheers
