Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Feb 09, 2016 1:18 pm The rules in AS3959 (relating to building in bushfire areas) state that "Decking shall not be spaced" for a fire zone rating of BAL40 and above. My build site in central QLD is probably going to be BAL40. I imagine natural wood decking in the sun would not get too hot in the tropical areas of QLD. That is not hot under bare feet and it would also not retain too much heat after the sun has set. However, squeezing natural timber decking planks tight up against each other to meet the no spacing rule is a recipe for disaster when the timber expands and contracts with the weather. Can anyone answer these questions based on personal experience: Fibre cement sheeting would satisfy the build rules but is it too hot underfoot and does it retain heat? What are the synthetic timber looking planks like? (I heard they fade but are they also hot). Re: What fire proof decking to use ? 2Feb 22, 2016 3:04 pm This (link) home is in a BAL 40 area and has Modwood for the decking. It is a great article as well. I recently attended a presentaton by this architect. I think the house looks great. http://www.architectureanddesign.com.au ... e-house-by I'm in a Flame Zone area but we went with polished concrete to match our internal flooring. Good luck with the build. Re: What fire proof decking to use ? 3Feb 22, 2016 3:49 pm I've heard people say that synthetic timber tends to be hot underfoot if exposed to the sun. In order to meet no-gap requirements, I wonder if it's possible to use tongue-and-groove fixing of timber with allowance for expansion? Hi, as per the subject. Does anyone have any recommendations for the best value decking oil (Bunning is close to where I live) for a treated pine deck? Thanks 0 10971 Have look at your house plans and you will probably find that brick articulation joint has been missed. Maximum allowable spacing is 6M or 5.5M for a wall with window… 17 20575 Hi We have a road close to our place and only an old flimsy wooden fence between us and the Neighbour closest to the road. Any ideas on a sound proof modular fence. Like… 0 7471 |
