Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Jan 24, 2016 11:53 pm I live in Qld and would like to add some sort of shade cloth to the treated pine pergola already attached to the house. The timber is in pretty good condition, though it is no longer plumb - so I figure it'd be good if whatever I do to add shade could also be used to bolster the structural integrity of the thing. Especially as, I'm guessing, adding a shade cloth would increase the stress placed on the existing timber. The way shade cloth is attached appears pretty straight forward. There are quite a few products out there with all sorts basic clips to do it, so that's not what I'm really unsure about. What I'm not sure about is what I need to add to the existing structure to make it work. Can I simply attach it to the beams as they currently are? Should I simply place another beam across the front of the exposed edges to provide a fixed line the cloth can be attached to? Or do I need to do more than this? Help appreciated.
